Despite being a so called “anti-war novel”, I decided that what interested me more was the role that time played in this novel, and how it compared to its role in the real world. Specifically, the idea of the non-linearity of time.

In conclusion…

Is time linear?

Maybe- just because we can’t see the fourth dimension doesn’t mean it’s not there. At the same time, it’s in our nature to need to see proof to convert our thinking from what “might be” to what is.

How much does time dictate our lives?

A lot, to say the least.

Humans, like all living creatures, are mortal- eventually, we all will run out of time. That’s why sayings like “carpe diem” exist, because we never know when our time is up, and we must seize every moment of it. But then how come so many of us keep our eyes so intent on the future?
